Makstil

New Infrastructure Solution for higher availability

Makstil AD is the largest Steel Production Plant in the former Yugoslavia area and part of Duferco Group AD. The company AD Makstil came out from the reconstruction and the privatization of the former Mines and Iron & Steelworks Skopje, an integrated producer of rolled products with annual production capacity of about 1,200,000 mt of finished products. Makstil Skopje consists of one Steel Making Plant and one Quarto Plate Mill, it is the only producer of hot rolled plates in the former Yugoslavia area. Business areas are amongst other: production of steel slabs, production and sale of Quarto Mill Plates as well as the production and sale of Quarto Mill Plates shot blasted or primed.

The challenge

AD Makstil is one of the fastest deployment companies in Macedonia with a rapid progress in hiring new employees and opening new production facilities. Therefore it was necessary to improve the availability of business critical processes like disaster recovery, backup, storage as well as restoring facilities.

The project

S&T was chosen for the implementation of the new solution. It was decided to increase the availability of the already existing ERP application consisting of Oracle application Cluster with two HP Itanium rx3600 servers (connected in cluster), HP storage and RedHat Enterprise Linux including disaster recovery software and Complete Backup solution with Bare Metal Restore functionality.

Therefore S&T implemented an Oracle RAC solution for the production environment and a standby solution for disaster recovery purposes. For the distribution, balancing and failover of the web traffic there were also installed an Oracle 10g Database, Oracle BI Discoverer and two Oracle AS Web Cache servers. The provided solution guarantees Makstil AD now maximum prevention of their business critical processes.
