BUWOG

Infrastructure Harmonization

The BUWOG building and construction company is one of the biggest and best-known residential building developers in Austria. As part of a real estate finance group, the company employs over 100 staff at BUWOG central offices and 270 house managers. BUWOG has already been operating for more than 50 years and during this time has built around 23,000 apartments covering an area of some 1.75 million square metres. BUWOG offers a comprehensive range of construction, property management and real estate selling and leasing consultancy services.

The Challenge

In order to modernise the BUWOG central offices in Vienna, the IT system was brought onto a state-of-the-art footing, including the updating and optimisation of all server, storage, safety, software and work station facilities. The storage system had to be flexible, capable of enlargement and optimised to BUWOG requirements.

The Project

S&T Austria had to begin by consolidating the BUWOG server landscape. The 26 servers being used were reduced in number to 14 HP servers and supported by a 3-year maintenance contract. As part of the modernisation programme, S&T also provided a turn-key solution for the storage system, bringing it onto a state-of-the-art footing. The BUWOG in-house IT team was then able to continue the operations smoothly.

The system is configured to meet BUWOG requirements to the full. It has both flexibility and capacity for enlargement, allowing it to meet future changes in operating requirements. The project also included the optimisation of data protection through a new security solution. S&T Austria has undertaken to provide storage services for the next five years.
