Leder & Schuh International AG

Infrastructure Harmonization

Leder & Schuh International AG, a private corporation with 3,082 employees and 297 branches, is primarily focused on the retail market for shoes and fashion accessories and has a market presence in seven countries with customer-oriented, leading designs such as: CORTI, DOMINICI, HUMANIC, JELLO and SHOE 4 YOU.

The Challenge

In both the storage and server areas of Leder & Schuh International AG, the consistent advances in technology that were planned and were to be implemented, were achieved in time. By the same token, the continuous costs for possible maintenance renewal would have been too high. The corporation was enjoying great expansion internationally, and given the steady growth in the size of the data base, additional storage capacity was necessary. In
the server system area, Leder & Schuh International AG additionally decided on the implementation of VMware to ensure long term control over complex operations. Lastly, the existing tape library, the only technical tender spot, was included in the modernization project.

The Project

In 2005, S&T Austria launched the replacement of the EMC Storage System Clariion FC4700 with two mirrored EMC Storage Solutions CX500 systems. All of the data was migrated to the new systems and a five-year maintenance contract was concluded. This not only brought new technology into play, but also led to a noticeable enhancement in performance through higher storage capacity and reduced maintenance costs.

Furthermore, in the first quarter of 2006 two HP DL 585 servers were installed in the two computing centers and configured with a redundant VMware solution. As a result, the extremely important failure protection for the business processes will still be guaranteed. New servers can be implemented more easily, and resources can actually be used considerably more efficiently. In order to remedy the ever-recurring problems of the existing security facilities, a two-tier backup system was implemented as well. Thanks to this, the already existing high backup and restore performance could be increased.

The Benefit for the Customer

  • Improved performance and greater flexibility through the operation of proven technology
  • Greater storage capacity and reserves for future development, if and when needed
  • Lower hardware and maintenance costs
  • Server maintenance without downtimes
  • Savings in time and costs
