Six state-of-the-art Data Centres

Joint Stock Company Ukrtelecom is a modern enterprise with developed infrastructure. Ukrtelecom holds leading positions in the Ukrainian market of wired telephone communications. Company controls about 71% of the local telephone communications and 83% of the intercity and international telephone communications. The company serves more than 10,000000 telephone lines and is a leading provider of Internet access services in Ukraine with more than several hundred thousand subscribers. Ukrtelecom’s revenue in 2006 exceeded 1.1 billion euros.

The challenge

Ukrtelecom needed powerful, up-to-date Data Centres due to rapid development of the company, expansion of the portfolio of services and optimisation of services planned for the future. As well, steadily increasing quality requirements meant that an upgrade of the existing IT infrastructure was necessary.

The project

Aiming to reduce costs and modernise, S&T Ukraine and Microsoft Ukraine planned and constructed six high-performance Data Centres, one of which acts as the main centre while the other five are accommodated in Ukraine’s major cities. These Data Centres work as a unit and can serve more than 30,000 corporate internal users. Ukrtelecom now uses state-of-the-art Data Centres that meet the latest global requirements. Based on a unique infrastructure, the Data Centres enable Ukrtelecom to offer new business and corporate services which can be automated within the company.

The Ukrtelecom department of information and communication technologies, which was responsible for project implementation, already offered about 70 upto- date services. Upon project completion, 13 more services are offered as per innovative Microsoft MSA 2.0 architecture requirements. Ukrtelecom’s approximately 30,000 corporate internal users now have access to services such as: network services, active directory, e-mail, an internal portal, options for integration, file access, data storage, data back-up and restore, databases, monitoring and management of the IT infrastructure, security, quality control and perimeter defense.
