S&T Slovakia: VVS Kosice waterworks company switched to SAP

New information system for more effective company management

Východoslovenská vodárenská spoločnosť, a.s. (hereinafter VVS, a.s.), is operating in the area of drinking water supply for inhabitants and business entities in Eastern Slovakia. In March last year the company decided to implement a new SAP-based information system, which would cover management of financial accounting, controlling, logistics and human resources as well as management of long-term assets and the data warehouse. The information system is based on SAP R/3 Enterprise system and branch solution SAP IS-U/CCS, developed by SAP especially for the waterworks engineering industry. Implementation of basic modules of the information system was finished this year in January. Branch modules were added to the system within the next stage, which was finished in May. According to Ivan Lužica, managing director of S&T Slovakia these modules were developed in accordance with the needs and requirements of the waterworks company. In Slovakia, this was the first implementation of SAP in this industry. “The new solution supports the management of basic company functions like finances, logistics and human resources management. The main advantages for the waterworks company are effective evaluation of business processes, increased quality management of all organisational structures of the company and more efficient control of financial activity”, explains Christian Rosner, CEO S&T AG.

Own solution from S&T Slovakia (VARIAS)
S&T Slovakia (VARIAS) provided for the new information system own solutions for identification of material, property and documents with the use of bar codes and for management of company transport processes. The first solution makes the work of employees easier and the processes more transparent. It reduces the time needed for execution of necessary activities as well as the error rate. The second solution allowed interconnection of management of company transport, passenger cars and construction mechanisms with other SAP modules. “By adding the transport management to the system, we want to reduce costs and increase performance respectively. The system allows recording and evaluation of activities of every single vehicle and driver, monitoring all journeys and work tasks as well as the corresponding costs of their operation,” emphasized Ing. Anita Gašparíková, economic manager of VVS, a.s.

Documentum 5 for administration of documents
The project also included a solution for administration and storage of documents. Thanks to this application, the waterworks company can now electronically manage the distribution of contracts, vendor and sales invoices, requirements of clients and internal documents like e.g. directives, instructions of the management or circulars. The Documentum system also guarantees storage of documents. It not only stores documents created or processed within the system itself, but also incoming documents from SAP. Within a short period of time, the system will also be connected to a file module. “Today, it takes a much shorter time to approve, make comments in or handle documents. We also keep better track of the status of document preparation than before," adds Ing. Anita Gašparíková. “In the past, the whole process from approval up to accounting of vendor invoices took on average 14 days. After implementation of the Documentum system invoice processing was reduced to 4 days. One of the main advantages is the simplicity of orientation within documents", says Ing. Anita Gašparíková.

S&T in Slovakia

The IT market in Slovakia
The Slovakian IT market annually records a two-digit growth rate. For 2007 experts from EITO expect growth of 11.4%, the IT services market could even achieve 13% growth. Slovakia ranks in the middle of all Central and East European countries with an IT expenditure of 137 euros per head. The Slovakian IT market contains a volume of around 1.2 billion US dollars altogether. IT sales should increase to 1.5 billion US dollars by 2010.
