S&T wins large EU-funded order in Poland

The Polish Ministry of Economic Affairs and Labour wants to win the battle against high unemployment with IT solutions from S&T

A consortium led by a Polish subsidiary of S&T System Integration & Technology Distribution AG has won a contract for a labour market monitoring system and a public employment service portal for the Polish Ministry of Economic Affairs and Labour funded by the PHARE programme.
The main goals of the project are the improvement of labour management in Poland, harmonisation with EU standards and the integration of the relevant data in the EURES system. EURES (European Employment System) is the European portal for professional mobility and is used throughout the European Union. This project is an important element of efforts to combat unemployment in Poland, which at approximately 20 percent is the highest in the European Union.

The implementation of a standardised and integrated IT system will make it easier to find local, national and international vacancies at greater speed and will also improve the quality and effectiveness of the work carried out by the administrative apparatus, the efficiency with which resources are used and also the verification of the data input. The project will largely be funded by the European Union (PHARE 2002) with Polish co-financing. It has been agreed that no details will be released concerning the volume of the order.

The project includes a database for a nationwide labour market monitoring system and a web portal for the employment office as well as Internet access for job centres throughout Poland which do not yet have Internet access. The employment office in Poland includes the Ministry for Economic Affairs and Labour as well as job centres in 16 provinces and 338 municipalities. Once this project has been implemented these centres will have access to the database and the portal.

The offer proposed by the S&T led consortium received 97.3 out of 100 possible points for its technical solution. The project is to be implemented by May 2005. S&T Group employs 1300 people, 140 of them in Poland.
