SAP Quality Award

S&T Austria cooperated with WienIT to implement a sophisticated solution designed to monitor the distribution network of Wien Energie Gasnetz, Austria’s largest gas network provider.

According to prevailing gas network regulations, Wien Energie Gasnetz GmbH is required to inspect the gas distribution network at periodic intervals as the basis for a secure and reliable supply of energy.

At Wien Energie Gasnetz a separate department is responsible for dealing with breakdowns, supply interruptions or system failures. This department has been assigned the task to plan, carry out and document such inspections. Several job steps and entry in different applications were necessary for data acquisition, making the process a complex one.

WienIT, the main IT service provider within the Wiener Stadtwerke Group, was contracted by Wien Energie Gasnetz to handle the procurement and implementation of a comprehensive mobile solution to monitor the pipeline network. This solution was divided into mobile applications (“MobSAP“ and ”MobGIS“) as well as in the backend systems SAP and GIS.

Within the framework of the project, S&T was responsible for the conception, planning and implementation of the mobile client (MobSAP Client) on the basis of SAP Netweaver Mobile, and also provided support in development backend functionalities (MobGIS, SAP and GIS).

The involved business units at Wien Energie Gasnetz record the data in the field and implement the technical inspection. At the same time the documentation of these tests are carried out in an audit-proof manner which would also stand up in court. With this mobile solution which has been used since the beginning of the year, the administrative work for monitoring the pipeline network has been reduced, potential sources of errors have been minimized and process execution time has been optimized.

SAP bestows the SAP Quality Award (gold, silver, bronze) on particularly outstanding implementation projects, which stand out on the basis of their excellent quality both in terms of the project scope as well as the project implementation. This year’s award winners will be honored within the context of the SAP World Tour 2011 in Gmunden, Austria.
