ÖBB Relies on IT Solution from S&TFreight Transport Becomes Faster and SaferFollow-up project with Deutsche Bahn Railion already implementedThe consortium, consisting of S&T, ÖBB Dienstleistungs GmbH and Sterling Commerce, won the order to improve the flow of information to ÖBB customers. The purpose of the project was to switch information concerning freight transport, order management, freight papers, transport status etc. to safe and reliable electronic means of communication. This new solution will allow ÖBB to respond even faster and economically and with greater flexibility to customer needs and the demands of the market, thus achieving considerable competitive advantages.The central element of the software is the "Sterling Integrator" from Sterling Commerce, one of S&T's strategic partners. By using cutting-edge web-based technologies additional applications can be integrated into the existing system at any time. By means of set rules this IT solution handles inter-system business processes in real time. The know-how gained from this project has already been successfully put to use in a follow-up project. RAILION, the freight transport division of Deutsche Bahn (DB), has been connected to the ÖBB integration platform to permit the automatic exchange of transport status information. The successful completion of the project has prompted a large number of enquiries about similar solutions from all over Europe. |
