S&T Reduces the Risk and Consequences of IT Disasters

Competence Centre for Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Now Open

S&T, the leading provider of IT services in Central and Eastern Europe, has established a competence centre in Ljubljana, Slovenia, specialising in business continuity and disaster recovery. Professional concepts for maintaining business-critical IT processes in unforeseen problem situations and recovering IT systems after disasters should limit the impact of such incidents for S&T customers.
Only 37% of companies currently have a comprehensive security strategy which also includes business continuity and emergency plans: This was the result of a study presented in October 2006, "The Global State of Information Security", carried out by the magazines Computerwoche, CIO, CSO and the consulting company PricewaterhouseCoopers and which surveyed 7,791 executives in 50 countries. "Up to now, it has mostly been the very large companies which have recognised business continuity and disaster recovery as strategic issues and implemented plans to deal with them. Most companies have at best implemented individual measures, but have not drawn up comprehensive plans for dealing with emergencies. The large number of natural disasters and the massive increase in external threats these days, as well as the need to maintain complex legal and regulatory requirements are now persuading many companies to invest in this area. The Competence Centre is our response to market demand and we will continue to roll out this issue in our countries," explained Christian Rosner, CEO of S&T AG.

Maintaining Business-Critical IT-Processes

After carrying out a risk assessment, business continuity services focus on planning and implementing measures which enable business activities to be continued. Disaster Recovery comprises all measures which are initiated following accidents in information technology, such as data recovery or the replacement of hardware which can no longer be used. The S&T Competence Centre brings together the expertise of specialists in these areas. As the S&T subsidiary in Ljubljana already has a large number of these specialists, the choice of location was a logical one. The competence centre builds upon projects in this field which have already been successfully implemented for customers such as Telekom Slovenia and Slovakia, Sandoz, INA Croatia and Slovnaft in Slovakia.

Cross-Border Support

The tasks of the Competence Centre include providing support for the sales and service teams in all S&T countries with business continuity and disaster recovery projects, and also training local experts. The Competence Centre offers S&T customers technology-neutral consulting, the development of customised solutions and implementation of orders on the basis of many years of practical experience.

S&T in Slovenia

The S&T subsidiary in Slovenia is one of the largest companies in the Group and is the local market leader in the field of system integration. S&T currently employs approximately 360 employees at four subsidiaries in Slovenia. The Slovenian IT market is already highly developed, but is still showing moderate growth.
